Health Information Privacy

1. Introduction

Anglican Care collects and maintains health information as part of the membership enrollment and medical need sharing process. This Health Information Privacy Notice explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect the health information of our Members and their dependents. Anglican Care is a Health Care Sharing Ministry, not a covered entity under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). However, we are committed to protecting the confidentiality of Member health information in accordance with the standards described in this notice.

2. Health Information We Collect

We collect the following types of health information:
  • Enrollment Information: Basic health history and current health status provided during the enrollment process.
  • Medical Need Submissions: Diagnosis information, treatment details, provider bills, prescriptions, and related documentation submitted for sharing consideration.
  • Emergency Contact and Provider Information: Primary care provider details and emergency contact information.
  • Dependent Health Information: Health information for dependents included on a Member’s enrollment.

3. How We Use Health Information

We use Member health information to:
  • Review and determine eligibility of medical needs for sharing.
  • Coordinate sharing among Members in accordance with our Sharing Guidelines.
  • Communicate with healthcare providers to verify medical needs and negotiate costs.
  • Maintain membership records and process contributions.
  • Provide Member support services, including telehealth access.

4. How We Disclose Health Information

Anglican Care does not sell Member health information. We may disclose health information in the following circumstances:
  • To Other Members: Limited information may be shared among Members for the purpose of facilitating voluntary sharing of medical needs, consistent with the Sharing Guidelines.
  • To Healthcare Providers: We may communicate with healthcare providers to verify medical needs, obtain records, and coordinate sharing.
  • To Service Providers: We may share information with third-party service providers who assist with medical need processing, payment processing, or related functions. These providers are contractually obligated to maintain confidentiality.
  • As Required by Law: We may disclose information when required by law, court order, or other legal authority.

5. Protection of Health Information

We implement reasonable safeguards to protect Member health information, including:
  • Restricting access to health information to authorized personnel who need it to perform their duties.
  • Using secure transmission methods for sensitive data where feasible.
  • Maintaining physical and electronic security controls.
  • Training staff on confidentiality requirements.
Despite our efforts, no system is completely secure. We cannot guarantee the absolute security of Member health information.

6. Member Rights

Members have the following rights regarding their health information:
  • Access: You may request a copy of the health information we maintain about you.
  • Correction: You may request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete health information.
  • Confidentiality: You may request that we communicate with you about health matters in a specific manner (e.g., by mail rather than email).
  • Withdrawal: You may withdraw consent for sharing of certain information, understanding that this may affect the processing of medical needs.

7. Retention of Health Information

We retain Member health information for the duration of membership and for a reasonable period thereafter as needed to maintain records, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes.

8. Changes to This Notice

We may update this Health Information Privacy Notice from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.

Anglican Care is a Health Care Sharing Ministry, not insurance. Participation is voluntary. Anglican Care does not guarantee that any medical need will be shared. Members do not have a contractual right to receive payment for any medical expense.
